About Sawai Madhopur
Sawai Madhopur is a small town whose name is inseparable from what surrounds it: Ranthambore National Park, one of India's best-known tiger reserves. The town itself was founded in 1765 by Sawai Madho Singh I as a satellite of Jaipur state, but its modern identity is entirely built around the park, once the private hunting reserve of the Maharajas of Jaipur before its 1980 conversion into a protected tiger sanctuary.
Ranthambore's terrain — dry deciduous forest, lakes, and the ruins of a 10th-century fort scattered through the core zone — makes it visually distinct from anywhere else on the route, a genuine change of pace between the forts and palaces that otherwise define the itinerary.

The safari season runs October to June (the park closes for the July–September monsoon to let wildlife breed undisturbed); winter mornings (December–February) are genuinely cold for an open jeep safari, so guests are advised to layer up despite Rajasthan's desert reputation.
